That age old select-box problem, solved (or worked around rather) the unobtrusive/progressive way. Noted, via @DrewM.
"The detail makes the man" via @ValetMag.
Some turn-your-stomach-with-jealousy bits of illustration and design in the Momentus Project's collection of visual interpretations of US history.
Yeah the whole "unsolicited redesign of book covers or movie posters" thing has been done - a lot. And these Poe covers by Commoner are great. But what I really like are the little book tags featuring a skull'n'crossbones motif and some lovely, vintage-inspired design. And dripping in fantastic, evocative texture, as always from @CommonerInc.
Thanks @Trenti for helping to solve the "what design book should I buy next" conundrum, one reading list / annotated bookshelf photo at a time.
More Chemex fetishism. Saving for a quality video, great music and some very specific coffee weight measurements.
Saving this for future "running and jumping into cold things after sleeping in very hot things" purposes.
Oldish news now, but noting some lovely identity work from @Pentagram for Benetton.
Whilst it's worth keeping an eye out for this forthcoming search engine, the real story right now is the statistics and algorithmic work done by MIT post-grads that roots out the most influential players within a trending social topic. Fascinating stuff. Via @MichaelSurtees.
A whole bunch of front-end code snippets, in the spirit of the W3C definition of HTML5 in that most are just showcasing CSS3. Handy reference anyway. Via @CameronMoll.
Just noting this down so I can come back and gawp in jealously some more at a later date.
Love this idea for hanging artwork simply, easily and non-destructively. Not sure if the tape would hold for long in the sweaty depths of Texas though. I found this tape on Etsy too: http://www.etsy.com/shop/UGUiSU
I've got a lot of time for good, bare-bones boilerplates for getting projects started quickly. HTML5Boilerplate for example gives you just enough to save you time and give you a foundation without some of the OTT scaffolding some of the grid-based frameworks push at you. This HTML email boilerplate looks like it takes the approach of the former, so hopefully you can roll out the right type of horrid, old, tables-based code needed for the necessary evil of HTML emails. Via @cameronmoll.
Another grand-slam @kickstarter project. This time from @beephq. They managed to fund the entire first run of their beautiful button+app iPhone photo package in a crazily short amount of time. Deservedly so as the design is beautiful. I'm hoping that they build aggressively on the software side as well with instant upload, sharing, tweeting etc built in.
Nice use of the (unfortunately) WebKit-only mask-image CSS property in this show and tell from @trentwalton.
Thinking there was some complicated trick to this cold-brewed ice coffee craze that is taking coffee shops in warmer climes by storm (probably due to the elaborate siphon machine setup photo in an article that @bluebottleroast retweeted from @Eater), I did a bit of a Google and found an article from the trusty Smitten kitten that proves there is no trick and nothing elaborate about letting coffee and water sit together for 12 hours. Just great, smooth iced coffee.
Roundup of the goings on at the @TYPOconf Berlin this year. I Especially like Georg Seifert's Azuro typeface that you can get hold of for around the bargain price of €20. Very nice for on-screen work indeed. Via @designrelated.
Very of-its-time looking iPad magazine app. This issue: #3 Moral Tales.
Both the Pinball Hall of Fame and the Neon Boneyard in one Alterna-Vegas article? Spot on by the @nytimes.
